Twisty Sisters Riding Club USA

Being a part of the Twisty Sisters is a wonderful experience. There is a closeness between the group members that extends beyond just being “riding buddies”. Being together for the annual Rally truly seals these bonds. If you have not attended a Rally, make it a must for next year!

Hope you enjoy some of the photographs and articles from recent Twisty Sisters Rally!

Scott Masters, the head of the EMS service at Northeast Georgia Health System, and David Westfall, the District Public Health Director for the 13 county NE Georgia region - including Union County, will be giving their “First on the Scene” seminar again at the Twisty Sisters Rally at TWO. They concentrated on the simple things that motorcyclists can do to provide First Aid care to an injured motorcyclist until professional help arrives. In addition, they discussed some of the health related issues encountered by motorcyclists in general. Click for more information.

Carol Youorski, a.k.a. Skert, has traveled all over the USA showing both men and women that even a very small woman can pick up a very large motorcycle! But Carol doesn’t just pick up motorcycles—she rides! In fact, she started her first Iron Butt Rally on her 50th birthday. For more on Carol, check out her website Pink Ribbon Rides.

JoAnna Murray of Atlanta Motorcycle Schools gave a safety seminar entitled “Gorillas in the Midst”. The talk centered around the fact that often we miss an obvious danger because we either are not trained to look for that danger or we are focused on something else. This explains not only why cars may fail to see a motorcycle, but also why a motorcyclist may not recognize a potential danger in front of them. The solution is to get as much training as possible, read books and articles on riding strategies, and continually evaluate (and move to) the best lane position to see and be seen.

Above all, “Ride Smart!”

Charles W. Watwood, Jr., Motorcycle Accident Injury Attorney, of Law Bike presented some very interesting legal tips and advice. One of the biggest problems that he sees in motorcycle accident cases is lack of insurance or insufficient coverage amounts. Even if the other person is at fault, if there is no money to collect from insurance or personal assets, the motorcyclist is left with bills but not money to pay them. Check your insurance policy to see if you have uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. Raising your deductible will often fund the increase in premiums.

Judy Mecham owns She-Rides Active wear—one of the very few women’s only motorcycle apparel shops. She was at the Rally discussing riding gear that is designed specifically for women, what’s new in women’s gear, and the benefits of good, protective gear. When Judy is not giving seminars or setup at the race track during an AMA event, you can find her working hard at She-Rides. Please visit Judy and She-Rides—located at Toosy’s Motorcycle Way Station.

Presented to Britt and GT

Last year, Rikki was unable to attend the Rally—she was serving in Iraq. Currently, Rikki is on a rotating schedule that has her home for two months and then shipped out for two months. Fortunately, she was in the US during the Twisty Sisters Rally. We were so glad to see her this year!

In a very special moment, Rikki and Craig presented Britt and GT with a flag that Rikki flew in TWO’s honor on the day that Iraq was granted their freedom.

Rikki, thanks for all that you—and all of our service men and women—do to defend and provide freedom!

Twisty Sister Rally—August 13 - 15, 2004

The 4th annual Twisty Sisters Riding Club Rally was a huge success! The weather could not have been better—cool, sunny, perfect! Many ladies who attended the first three rallies returned—and there were many new faces who became instant friends. The closeness of this rally is something that you must experience to believe. Mark your calendar now for 2005!

Many thanks to everyone who made this such a successful weekend. Special thanks to Jeff (hope that is right!), for helping to lay my bike down gently. And to all the ladies who picked it up so well! Thanks to all for the great presentations.

And most of all, THANK YOU BRITT AND GT—you are the best!
